With Andy, who does all the management tasks, I co-own 20 acres of semi-ancient woodland which is split between land close to the house and deciduous woodland about a kilometre away. We bought the extra woodland for conservation as it’s carpeted in bluebells in early May and now not grazed. We have been surprised at the number of tree species in the wood and the variety of AWIs present. I’m particularly interested in the flora and completed several courses with the FSC in order to help survey and identify plants within both sections of our land…a life project I think, but immensely satisfying.
As a geographer/geologist I’m interested in the variety of landscapes we can enjoy in Montgomeryshire and I look forward to getting out and about and seeing habitats different to our own here near Meifod.
