Hi Everyone, Mike and I own 3 acres of woodland a couple of miles from Berriew. It’s part of a larger woodland Goron Wood and has an interesting mix of all sorts of trees. We have standard oaks, ash and lots of coppiced hazel. We also have some random conifers, beech, hornbeam, rowan and birch. Our spring flowers are fab including lovely bluebells, and we have a range of fungi We’ve had great fun with camera traps and found we have a range of unidentifiable rodents, hares, badgers, foxes, a cat and grey squirrels. We’ve spotted a range of woodland birds, woodpecker, nuthatch, blue tits, robins, blackbirds and some rather impressive Goshawks, Buzards and red kites.

Our aim is to improve the quality and range of habitats. We are focusing on coppicing old hazel stands, reinstating the hedgeline along the length of the wood, removing small ashes suffering from dieback and planting trees to replace ashes. We have created a small leaky dam to increase water availablity for insects and animals.
