Hi my name is Barbara and I wanted to introduce myself, not sure how the forum works so we shall find out!
I am based in Llanrhaeadr Ym Mochnant and have a smallholding of 7 acres there. I keep my Dexter/Jersey cross cows which I am keeping as house cows but also hope to develop a conservation grazing herd, (with any calves) to help some of the sites I work in on the other side of my life which is my work with my horses. My work is predominantly horseslogging but anything to do with working the the horses in low-impact land management. It is probably easier to see more on my website here http://www.carnog.co.uk.
I have joined this group as a general interest, for resources and to be in contact with more like minded land owners and people doing sensitive land management locally. I guess it is also a small plug for my work which may be of interest to people, particularly low-impact woodland management using horses and bracken control. But also I am also on the look out for sites to rent in the short term whilst I expand my small herd of cattle. I want to keep them at home in the Spring and Summer for calving and as I am milking them, but in the autumn and winter would be looking for places where they can maybe do some good conservation grazing. Thanks, Barbara
I thought I would try and add a photo which is me and two of my horses when we have just brought some fencing material up my neighbour’s steep hill and looking back down at Llanrhaeadr.Attachments:

The forum isn’t being used as much as we would like yet but we will be adding a ‘members’ services’ part to the website and will add information about what you do there. We will also circulate the information via our news updates emailed to the members; I am sure there will be interest.

Regarding your cattle, might be worth sending your details also to Montgomeryshire Wildlife Trust (for which I am also Conservation Officer); we often struggle to get cattle grazing on our sites, so it could well be a beneficial relationship. Suggest emailing Head of Living Landscapes, Ceri Jones, in the first instance, and telling her I sent you! ceri@montwt.co.uk
Hope to see you at an event soon.
